Creative Director Riccardo Tisci reverts to his Italian origins for the label’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection. The latest Givenchy collection explores the significance of communion when at a cult-like degree, and simultaneously allows hints of romanticism to seep through — apparent in the reworked ‘Madonnas and Child’ graphic and priest-like robes. Moving away from sportswear materials, the line makes good use of tailoring and fabric selection, as seen in the elongated shapes, boxier cuts, and the use of delicate materials such as silk chiffon, duchesse satin, organza and Japanese high density wool. Tisci’s signature emotion-evoking designs speak loudly in this upcoming collection, and although eerie at times, it offers a sense of disturbing tranquility that is only to be disrupted by the sounding of a church bell.
